Balancer

Class project for HCDE 518 User Centered Design
Quarter: Fall 2015
Team Size: 3

Balancer is a mobile app that encourages busy users to work toward accomplishing their personal goals through small, crowdsource-generated tasks.

My Contribution: User Research and Design

  • Determined research methods to be used
  • Interviewed target audience
  • Created personas
  • Developed wireframes
  • Developed high-fidelity prototype, with team, using Axure

Solution Objectives

The goal of Balancer is to help users to make easy progress toward personal goals.

  • Accounts for people’s personal goals
  • User receives recommendations for personal activities of interest in free time
  • Availability of several tasks that relate to personal goals
  • User should easily have access to tasks

User Research

After completing structured interviews, contextual inquiry, and guided tours, we compiled compiled the data and organized it using an affinity diagram (pictured).

Persona Creation

We created personas that addressed the needs, interests, and pain points of the individuals we interviewed.

Sketches

Our team spent about 30 minutes to an hour creating quick sketches of ideas that might address user concerns. We then sorted all of the sketches into categories (such as accomplishment awareness, pictured). After this, we decided which ideas best addressed user needs and pain points, and then began sketching a design for our app that would incorporate these ideas.

Wireframes

Low fidelity wireframes for early usability testing

Prototype

Based on usability testing feedback, we created a high fidelity prototype.
